The Maryland Center for Character Education at Stevenson University (MCCE@SU), recognized six Carroll County schools in its 2019 awards program.

The following schools received School of the Year Awards:

  • Francis Scott Key High School

  • Mt. Airy Elementary School

  • Mt. Airy Middle School

  • Oklahoma Rd Middle School

  • Shiloh Middle School

  • Westminster Elementary School

The awards program recognizes schools that have instituted, developed, and are continuing comprehensive character education initiatives in their school communities.  These initiatives bring about positive results in student behavior, school climate, and academic performance. The schools are nominated by each school system’s Superintendent and/or Character Education Coordinator.

According to Judy Klinger, Supervisor of School Counseling, “All schools in Carroll County currently implement and integrate Character Education and other programs that encourage, enhance, and promote a positive climate for learning. It is an honor for a school to be recognized by the Maryland Center for Character Education.”

Schools that are awarded the Maryland Center for Character Education status are eligible to apply for the State School of Character Award and subsequently the National School of Character Award.
