Department of Justice Internet Safety Forum to Address Protecting Children Online

A Department of Justice Internet safety forum entitled Innocence Stolen: Protecting Our Children Online will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. at Oklahoma Road Middle School, located at 6300 Oklahoma Road, Sykesville. The forum is open to the public but is limited to adults only due to the sensitivity of the topics to be discussed.

The Innocence Stolen program is offered to school staff, parents, and community organizations to equip and empower them to address the many teachable moments that occur when accessing the Internet. Vincent DeVivo, Community Outreach Specialist from the United States Attorney’s Office, District of MD, will give a 90-minute presentation reviewing the entire range of threats students face when they go online. Topics will include the dark web, texting, Internet predators, and an array of Internet dangers of which many parents are not aware.

This forum will provide new information for parents on the dangers our children are being exposed to on the Internet. We strongly encourage both parents to attend to learn more about how they can protect their children when they go online.
