The City of Westminster will begin installation of its Fiber Optic Network next week.  This project will bring faster, more reliable internet service for voice, video and data services throughout Westminster.  The City will commemorate this project with a groundbreaking ceremony, held at the Air Business Park, in front of Tina’s Deli at 125 Airport Drive, on Thursday October 16 at 9am.

“The Air Business Park is the ideal location for our groundbreaking since this is our first business location for fiber installation,” says Dr. Robert Wack, President of the Common Council. “This initiative is a key factor in economic development, and we are eager to offer broadband in an effort to bring more new businesses in Westminster.”

In addition to the commercial area of Air Business Park, the pilot phase of this project includes the Fairway Drive residential area. Henkels & McCoy, Inc. is managing the project and is a well-respected firm with extensive experience in fiber optic installation. Directional drilling will install the two-inch conduit, constructed along the public right of way, and any disrupted lawn areas will be repaired to “good or better” condition.  The work will commence between the hours of 7am and 5pm weekdays. It is expected to progress about 500 feet per day, with minimal disruption to affected communities other than the presence of some drilling equipment and some “no parking” designations.

“Fiber Optic Broadband will provide faster internet connection speeds and much greater bandwidth than the currently provided DSL or cable connections,” says Kevin Utz, Mayor of Westminster.  “We are excited to bring this state-of-the-art service to our residents and businesses.”

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held in front of Tina’s Deli at the Air Business Park. The event is free and open to the public.
