Health Department Offers Free Flu Vaccine Clinics for Children 6 Months-18
Westminster, MD

The Carroll County Health Department is offering another free flu vaccine clinic for children ages 6 months through age 18. The November clinic was not
open to children 6 months up to age 2, but vaccine is now available for this age group.

The clinic will be held on Wednesday, December 9, from 3:00 -7:00 PM at the Health Department, 290 South Center Street, Westminster.

A nationwide delay in FluMist production caused the county’s elementary school FluMist clinics to be rescheduled for November. Middle School FluMist clinics were cancelled. Students who missed their elementary school clinic, students in middle and high schools, and children who do not attend public school are all welcome to attend this clinic.

The Health Department clinics will offer FluMist first, but flu shots will be available for children who should not get the FluMist because of health conditions or other reasons. Children ages 6 months to 8 who are getting the flu vaccine for the first time will need two doses of the shot or FluMist, at least 28 days apart. They can return to the Health Department for a second dose, or see their primary care provider.

Adult flu shots are also available at the Health Department for $25, or on a sliding scale. The cost may be reimbursed by insurance, but payment to the Health Department is required at the time of the shot.

Children and adults may also get their flu vaccination from their primary care provider, urgent care clinics, or, for ages 9 and up, many pharmacies. For a list of area locations offering flu vaccinations, people can go to the Health Department website or They should call ahead to make sure the flu vaccine is available, and that the facility accepts their insurance.
