– On November 11, 2018 the Community Media Center, (CMC) will observe Veterans Day with a special broadcast featuring interviews with Carroll County Veterans. Special programming will start at 9:00am on cable channel 19. The interviews will continue to be broadcast throughout the month of November. For specific air dates and times, visit the Channel 19 program guide at

In October, the CMC collected interviews with local veterans as part of the Carroll County History project. Over 20 local veterans participated by sharing their story or by interviewing fellow service members.

The special broadcast on November 11, 2018 will include interviews with veterans who served in WWII and during the Vietnam era. Some saw combat while others served in support roles, and many had friends who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Through the personal accounts of those who served, we begin to see how military experiences, during a time of conflict or at peace, affect every aspect of life, regardless of whether a person served overseas or stateside.

It is the goal of the Veterans Oral History Collection that through the personal accounts of local veterans, viewers will better understand the realities of military service, and of war. By recording their stories, we not only honor their courage and patriotism, but also preserve their memories and provide a resource to help educate future generations.

Charles Harrison, Chair of the CMC Board of Directors said, “I’m so glad were doing things like this. I participated in the project a few years ago and I’ve seen the sense of pride veteran’s display when they are recognized and asked to share their experiences.” Harrison continued, “Preserving these stories of service is so important, it’s such a worthwhile project.” 1301 Washington Road, Westminster, MD 21157 ~ 410/386-4415 ~ fax: 410/875-2358

This is the fourth year that the Community Media Center has collected interview with local veterans. Videos recorded for the project become part of the Carroll County History Projects online video archive. To date, the Carroll History Project has collected nearly 70 oral histories from area veterans.
