$6.6 million renovation facilitates the growth of one of the college’s largest majors in kinesiology by expanding and modernizing classrooms and research spaces, as well as maximizing underutilized space

WHO/WHAT:                    McDaniel College hosts an invitation-only ribbon cutting ceremony and tours of the renovated Gill Physical Education Learning Center, known as Gill Center.

The $6.6 million renovation expanded and modernized classrooms and research spaces, as well as maximized underutilized space in Gill Center. The architect is Marshall Craft Associates of Baltimore and contractor is Whiting-Turner Contracting Company of Baltimore.

A kinesiology seminar room, nine faculty offices and three updated laboratories for human performance, neuromuscular performance and human anatomy and physiology have been created under Old Gill adding more than 12,000 square feet to the existing Gill Center.

Three multipurpose classrooms have been created as enclosures above the main seating area within the mezzanine level of Gill Gymnasium. These classrooms can be used as spectactors’ areas, as well as event spaces.

Funding for the project has been supported by a $3 million grant from the State of Maryland in addition to private donations. Efforts are also underway to raise funds to name spaces in the newly renovated Gill Center in honor of two beloved former kinesiology faculty members and alumni of the college, Samuel Case, class of 1963, and Dick Clower, class of 1950.

WHEN:                              Saturday, Oct. 6*

Ribbon cutting ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. with tours led by kinesiology faculty members to follow.
