Monday, August 6, 2018 5:00 p.m. - Progress has been made throughout the day in the excavation of Cascade Lake Dam, and the level of water remaining in the lake has been significantly lowered. While the hazard of dam failure remains until the excavation process is complete, the risk to residents and properties downstream has been considerably reduced.

Pumping operations are continuing as the excavation process is underway. It is possible that residents downstream may not notice any significant effects due to the breaching of the dam; however, increased water levels may still occur as work progresses.

Excavation operations at the dam continue to be monitored by the property owner’s engineers and by the Maryland Department of the Environment’s Division of Dam Safety.

Snydersburg Road in the area of the dam remains closed. This closure will last until the emergency condition has been addressed.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience
