For the first time ever, the Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® was cancelled due to snow on Saturday, April 9, 2016.

Each year Rape Crisis Intervention Service of Carroll County hosts this fundraising event where men walk down Westminster’s Main Street wearing women’s shoes to demonstrate their willingness and ability to partner with women in making our community a safer place.

The 2016 Highest Fundraising Team was the Gerstell Academy. The team raised a whopping $1,864, and will be given a custom award recognizing their success.

For the fourth year in a row, Stephen Hirsch was the Highest Fundraising Individual. Mr. Hirsch raised a total of $1,250 for RCIS.  Along with his trophy, Mr. Hirsch will also receive a remote car starter, a camcorder, two golf green fees for McDaniel College Golf Course, a $25 Buffalo Wild Wings gift certificate, $25 Applebee’s gift certificate, and a $25 Mr. Tire gift certificate – a total prize value of over $200.

Both winners will have their names printed on the back of next year’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event shirt, along with sponsors of the event.

Janice A. Kispert, CEO of RCIS, stated “We are honored and humbled by the outpouring of sincere enthusiasm from the men in our community. After our seventh year hosting this annual walk in Carroll County, it is encouraging to see our community continue to be so responsive to call attention to the silent epidemic of rape and sexual offenses against women in society”.

Each year, an ever-increasing number of men, women and their families join “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence.” Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is a fun opportunity for men to educate the community about a very serious subject and to rally the community to take action to prevent sexual violence. For more information about Carroll County’s event, please visit www.walkamilecc.org. Mark the date for next year’s walk on Saturday, April 8, 2017. We also plan to schedule a snow date.
